Free Cyber Security Training!
The NCSC has recently focused on engaging small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), charities, as well as the legal and accountancy sectors, shedding light on a crucial issue facing these organisations.
In summary, the abundance of cybersecurity advice can overwhelm individuals, making it challenging to determine where to begin. Some organisations struggle to articulate the significance of cybersecurity to their entire staff. Even larger entities, equipped with dedicated training resources, find it arduous to convey the technical aspects of cybersecurity in a manner relevant to their staff, thus hindering their ability to safeguard the organisation and its personnel from cyber threats.
Conversely, many SMEs and charities lack the resources to implement cybersecurity policies and training, leaving their staff vulnerable as the first line of defence against cyberattacks.
In response, the NCSC has developed an e-learning training package titled ‘Staying Safe Online: Top Tips for Staff.’ This resource is freely accessible, user-friendly, and can be completed in less than 30 minutes. The training elucidates the importance of cybersecurity, how cyberattacks occur, and delves into four key areas as listed below.
Four Key Areas of Cyber Security Training
- Defending against phishing attempts.
- Creating strong passwords.
- Securing personal devices.
- Promptly reporting incidents (‘if in doubt, call it out’).
While primarily targeting SMEs, charities, and the voluntary sector, this training is applicable to organisations of any size or industry. It is intentionally crafted for a non-technical audience, providing tips that complement existing policies and procedures, even for those with minimal or no prior knowledge of cybersecurity.
Although sophisticated hackers and AI-fuelled cyberattacks tend to hijack the headlines, one thing is clear: The biggest cybersecurity threat is human error, accounting for over 80% of incidents.
