‘Famous Five’ complete Project Youth Cancer Charity Walk
I am pleased to report that on Sunday 2nd July our five intrepid walkers – Jim Houston, Gary Colclough, Helen Newton, Chris Smith and Richard Payne – completed the twelve-plus mile Project Youth Cancer Charity Walk from Magic Rock Tap in Holmfirth to the Magic Rock Brewery in Birkby (via Upperthong, Meltham and Slaithwaite then along the Huddersfield Narrow Canal).
Although we took a challenging uphill route for the first half of the trek (from Holmfirth to Upperthong and then Meltham to Slaithwaite), we all had a great time chatting, exchanging stories, and taking in the scenery along the way. Having completed the first stage of the walk and taken a well-earned break at The Commercial in Slaithwaite, we thought the second half would be a breeze. However, between the Milnsbridge the Paddock sections of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal the route was closed, resulting in the ‘Famous Five’ having to scale a walk, which was easier for some more than others 😂.
Having reached the finishing line at the Magic Rock Brewery in Birkby we enjoyed another drink before checking the updated fund total on the Just Giving page. I am delighted to report we have so far raised £755 for Project Youth Cancer and if anyone would like to make a donation post-event, to top-up the total, please visit Just Giving here.
Thanks
Richard
