Project Youth Cancer: Supporting Young Lives Affected by Cancer
Cancer is a daunting battle, especially for young people facing the disease. In such challenging times, having the right support is crucial. That’s where Project Youth Cancer (formerly the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust) comes in. This remarkable organisation is dedicated to improving the lives of young cancer patients across the United Kingdom.
Founded in 1996 in memory of Laura Crane, a courageous teenager who sadly lost her battle with cancer, the trust focuses on providing vital support and funding for research into cancers affecting young people aged 13 to 24. Their mission is to ensure that these individuals receive the best possible care and support throughout their cancer journey.
Project Youth Cancer works tirelessly to make a positive impact in several key areas. Firstly, they provide funding for cutting-edge research projects focused on understanding and treating cancers that primarily affect young people. By investing in scientific advancements, they aim to improve survival rates and enhance the quality of life for those affected.
Secondly, the trust recognises the importance of emotional support for young cancer patients. They offer a range of services designed to alleviate the psychological and emotional strain that often accompanies a cancer diagnosis. From counseling and therapy sessions to support groups and social events, the trust ensures that young patients have a strong support network to lean on during their challenging journey.
Thirdly, Project Youth Cancer is committed to raising awareness about youth cancer and the unique challenges it poses. Through educational campaigns, they strive to increase public understanding of these rare cancers, which often receive less attention compared to other types of the disease. By fostering awareness, the trust aims to improve early detection rates and ensure young people receive prompt and appropriate care.
Fundraising is at the heart of the trust’s activities, enabling them to provide the vital support young cancer patients need. They organise various events and initiatives throughout the year, such as sponsored runs, charity auctions, and community campaigns. The funds raised go towards research grants, patient support programs, and the overall betterment of the lives of young cancer patients.
Fusion IT Management has a close relationship with Project Youth Cancer and over the last twelve months has been involved in various fundraising activities. Therefore, it was with pleasure that on Thursday this week (18th May), we were able to present Helen Mervill – Head of Operations at Project Youth Cancer – with a ‘donation’ of three high specification laptops and six Amazon Fire tablets for use by patients during their treatment and recovery.
Long may our relationship continue! Thanks to the unwavering dedication of Project Youth Cancer, countless young lives have been positively impacted. Their commitment to improving the understanding, treatment, and support for young cancer patients is both inspiring and invaluable. By working towards a future where no young person faces cancer alone, the trust is making a profound difference in the lives of those affected by this devastating disease.
Thanks
