Are you (spacially) aware of this new product?
So last night my colleague – Matt Gledhill – attended the Apple WWDC (World Wide Developer Conference) 2023 online where Apple revealed their new product releases. Several new products were announced, but the one which specifically caught Matt’s eye was the Apple Vision Pro AR Headset.
So what’s an Apple Vision Pro AR Headset?
Apple is stating the Apple Vision Pro AR Headset is likely to usher in a new era of computing, much like the pioneering Mac introduced us to personal computing, and the iPad and iPhone accelerated the growth of mobile computing,
Having set the pace in personal and mobile computing, Apple now want to lead from the front with spatial computing! The Apple Vision Pro is a spatial computer that takes User’s favourite apps to another level. Rather than being limited by traditional displays, the Apple Vision Pro introduces a fully three-dimensional User interface. Plus it has the most natural and intuitive inputs imaginable to control it i.e. your eyes, hands, and voice.
The Vision Pro comes with its very own operating system called visionOS, which is designed to make digital content seamlessly blend into your physical world. It’s like having a canvas where apps can appear side-by-side, without any boundaries. As a result it is suggested Uses can benefit from an infinite screen view, improved productivity, and will be able to multi-task like they never have before. Plus, Users will be able to connect their Apple Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad for the ultimate workspace setup with a portable 4K display with razor-sharp text!
In addition and as expected, the Apple Vision Pro will be a game-changer when it comes to entertainment. The solution has two ultra-high-resolution displays, so you can transform any space into a personal movie theatre. To put that into context, a screen will feel 100 feet wide! Plus the advanced Spatial Audio system will make you feel like you’re right in the middle of any multi-media action with stunning three-dimensional movies and immersive gaming experiences. If you want Apple Arcade games on a screen as big as possible – no problem!
There’s more. The Apple Vision Pro takes your memories to a whole new level. With its first three-dimensional camera, you can capture, relive, and immerse yourself in your favourite moments from the past. And thanks to integration with iCloud, you can access your entire photo library at a life-size scale, with jaw-dropping colours and incredible detail.
The Apple Vision Pro also dovetails nicely with FaceTime. With Apple Vision Pro, your video calls are enhanced substantially. Imagine seeing everyone on the call in life-size ’tiles’, with Spatial Audio making it sound like they’re right there with you. Plus, when you wear Vision Pro during a FaceTime call, you’ll be represented by a digital version of yourself—an Apple-created Persona that mirrors your face and hand movements in real time.
There are further benefits to be gained from the devices through App Store. Apple Vision Pro has its very own store where you can discover apps and content specifically designed for this leading-edge device. Plus, you can access hundreds of thousands of familiar iPhone and iPad apps that automatically work with Vision Pro’s unique input system. Frankly, it’s a whole new world of app experiences waiting to be explored.
Let’s be honest wearable tech can often look a bit naff, but with a combination of high-performance materials, Apple has managed to create a compact wearable device that looks the part. The sleek design features a glass lens that acts as an optical surface for the array of cameras and sensors. Essentially it’s like having a super-powered lens right in front of your eyes. The frame gently curves around your face, ensuring a comfortable fit for everyone. Plus, the straps and headband provide cushioning and breathability, so you feel at ease in the Vision Pro all day long.
The device is powerful. The Apple Vision Pro boasts an ultra-high-resolution display system powered by Apple silicon. This translates into 23 million pixels packed into two displays the size of a postage stamp! As a result Users experience mind-blowing visuals with stunning colors and clarity combined with an advanced Spatial Audio system that creates an immersive sound experience. To be honest, it’s like being in the middle of a concert or a movie theater.
Privacy and security are top priorities for Apple, and Vision Pro is no exception. It features Optic ID, a secure authentication system that analyses your iris and instantly unlocks the device. Your Optic ID data is fully encrypted, so you can rest assured that your personal information is safe and sound. Plus, Apple ensures that your eye tracking information and surroundings stay private, so you have full control over your experience.
Unfortunately pioneering technology isn’t cheap. The Apple Vision Pro starts at $3,499 (approx £2800) and will be available early next year on apple.com and at Apple Store locations in the U.S. only, with more countries later on. And if you want to learn more about this mind-blowing device, head over to apple.com/apple-vision-pro.
Thanks
Richard
PS – Matt said, “It’s one step closer to the Holodeck in Star Trek” which is a great analogy!
