The default view when opening new documents in Word is Reading Mode. This changes the page to look like a standard book layout, all ribbons are hidden and pages can be changed by clicking the arrows on each page.
If you prefer to use the standard Print Layout view, you can press Esc on your keyboard or click the Print Layout view at the bottom of the screen.
Alternatively you can turn off Reading Mode permanently by clicking the File menu and choosing Options . On the General tab, ensure that the ‘Open e-mail attachments and other editable files in reading mode’ is not ticked.
