We have recently been asked to provide and set up an IT system for one of our clients The Property Search Group as they are in the process of opening a training centre in South Yorkshire.
One of the main considerations was that the computers would be used to train a wide range of users from around the UK so it would not be your usual set up and would require a far greater level of security. Additionally some of the courses would be internet based so a high speed connection was essential, however the site’s location was in an area where ADSL speeds were very slow.
Our solution would give a truly locked down environment and a high speed internet connection.
We achieved this by installing a Microsoft 2003 server which would dictate what was available on each of the computers such as removing all menu options, removing the ability to change the desktop wallpaper, removing access to any program files, fixing the desktop wallpaper with the company logo, removing the task manager and only allowing access to Internet Explorer.
We arranged for 2 new ADSL lines and used Cisco equipment to bond these to the existing line thus trebling the upload and download speeds. Additionally we configured the new routers to limit access to the training websites only, this ensured that users do not have the ability to go on any site which may cause damage to the systems.
The system is now installed and working perfectly.
