Here at Fusion IT, we are clearly a company that is passionate about technology and its capabilities. Apple has consistently proven itself to be a market leader in the realms of technological innovation. Therefore, we were naturally very excited and intrigued to get our hands on one of technology’s biggest recent developments: the iPhone 7.
There have been some impressive improvements in spec from the latest iPhone model. The phone’s A10 Fusion chip (which, despite the name, unfortunately, has no association with Fusion IT) makes it two times faster than the iPhone 6. A consistent criticism that is aimed at any model of the iPhone is aimed towards its battery life (or lack of it) so consumers will be relieved to know the iPhone 7 offers the longest battery life of any iPhone so far. In addition to these changes, it seems the main focus in stepping forward for the iPhone has been in regards to the camera. The iPhone 7 seems to be finally catching up with Samsung in terms of photo capabilities with its 12MB camera on the back of the phone and the 7MB ‘Facetime’ camera on the front. In addition to this the iPhone 7+ includes a two-lens camera which allows for better quality pictures and a better, clearer zoom feature.
At Fusion we know that when it comes to technology, looks aren’t everything. However, there’s no denying that the iPhone 7 is a beautiful piece of technology. Removing the headphone jack (more about this controversial move later) has allowed Apple to design its slimmest iPhone ever. The stunning 5 colours the iPhone comes in only adds to the phone’s aesthetic qualities. In addition to these exterior improvements in design, the display on the new iPhone is crisper and brighter than ever, making it a joy to use the iPhone 7 to watch videos and view pictures. One of the most talked about changes with the new iPhone has been the removal of the headphone jack. However, don’t worry, you won’t have to throw away your favourite earbuds just yet. There is a dongle wire that plugs into the bottom of your phone that allows you to use traditional headphones. Alternatively, you can try the new ‘AirPods’, the wireless headphones that operate by a Bluetooth connection to your phone and work surprisingly well.
All these changes have been made to coincide with the release of iOS10, Apple’s most powerful operating system yet, which has a few exciting features of its own to offer. However, are these changes enough? The iPhone 7 has been criticised for not bringing enough innovation to the table and Apple have been accused of simply ‘milking a cash cow’. We have to admit, although we can understand the ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ approach Apple is taking in regards to the iPhone 7, for a company that prides itself on constantly striving to push its own boundaries in terms of technological progress, there isn’t that much that is new here. With that said the iPhone 7 is an impressive piece of technology that still surpasses most, if not all, of its competition in its field. The new iPhone makes a solid addition to the Apple family which delivers well across the board. We just wish there was a bit more here to get us truly excited about.
