Creating new documents
MatterSphere contains a set of default documents, called Precedents. Precedents are used each time you create documents through MatterSphere. There are four ways to create new documents in MatterSphere and these are explained in more detail in the following sections.
The Matter Centre tab
There are three icons on the Matter Centre tab in Word that can be used to create new documents.
The following table explains more about the documents that can be created by selecting one of the icons shown above.
Each of these options will open the Select a Client/ Matter screen, which is used to select who to address the document to.
After selecting the precedent and Associate or Client, the relevant document opens ready for you to complete the details. You may find that some of the details have already been completed from the Matter/ Client/ Associate selected but this will depend on how the precedent has been set up.
On the Home tab there is a Create icon that can also be used to create a document. This icon works in exactly the same way as selecting an option from the Matter Centre tab.
- Click the drop down beneath the Create icon.
- After choosing a Client and Matter, click the Associates tab at Matter level.
The Actions pane on the left hand side of the screen will show the options available.
The same option can also be seen by right clicking an Associate name.
The Precedent Manager contains all the precedents on MatterSphere. From this screen you can select the precedent that you want to create and then select the Client/ Matter/ Associate that you want to create the letter for.
- Click Precedent Manager on the Matter Centre toolbar and enter the name (or part of) of the precedent in the Active Search field.
The list will be filtered to show precedents that match the criteria entered.
- After selecting the precedent that you want to use, click Continue.
The Select Associate screen will be displayed, which is used to select the Client/ Matter/ Associate you want to write to.
- After selecting the correct Client, click Proceed.
- Select the Associate and click Proceed again.
