Microsoft’s latest version of their productivity suite Office 2010 was released on April 15th, 2010 and amongst other features it marks the debut of free online versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote.
They have also release a free version called Office Starter 2010 which comes bundled onto new computers as OEM software and it comes with Word Starter 2010 and Excel Started 2010 which are reduced functionality versions for viewing, editing and creating documents. This version is also preloaded with adverts designed to entice the user to upgrade to the proper version however for basic functionality is is more than adequate, al long as you don’t mind the odd advert.
