Ask for help!
Although it’s always a good idea to try and work out the answer to your problem yourself don’t be afraid to ask for help. Something that may take you most of the day to work out might be a simple query for someone who uses Word regularly.
People who don’t understand Styles hate them and as a result refuse to use them. Styles can make you more efficient when creating documents and can also help to solve some formatting issues. They’re not always easy to set up so a bit of guidance may be needed but once you get the hang of them they will save you lots of time.
Line and Page Breaks
Some of the most common problems in Word involve line and page breaks. Word itself if very good at handling page breaks but sometimes you find that text from one paragraph spans over two pages as a result of an automatic page break – some users will insert a page break to solve this problem but the best method to use is paragraph pagination. Word also wraps text from one line to another automatically so manual line breaks are not really needed in every day documents – if you’re worried about formatting carrying from one line to another you should use a Style instead.
There are numerous Keyboard Shortcuts that can be used in Word. If you do a lot of typing these can save you a lot of time – they’re not everyone’s cup of tea but if you give them a try you may realise how easy they are to use.
The Undo option in Word is a valuable feature. As long as you haven’t saved your document you can undo the last actions that you did. Knowing this means you can try different things in Word and undo the changes if you don’t like the results.
